TenneT speeds up data processing with the Wistor Conversion Engine app
TenneT faced a major challenge. The high-voltage grid operator was switching to a new asset management system, but the enormous amount of data from contractors didn’t fit the new model. Consultant Isabella Van den Bussche explains: “Manually entering all the data seemed like the only option—until the Wistor Conversion Engine made all the difference.”
From manual work to automatic conversion
Instead of adjusting thousands of fields by hand, TenneT now uses the Wistor Conversion Engine. This smart solution automatically converts contractor data into the correct format for the new asset management system. This allows TenneT to import all data at once, saving a great deal of time and significantly reducing the risk of errors.
Smart intermediate step: the OTL model
Isabella: “Because we know that systems and data models often change over time, we decided to take a two-step approach. In the first step, we convert all contractor data into the OTL model (Object Type Library). This model acts as a kind of dictionary—it defines what every term within the organization means. This makes the data future-proof: independent of any single system and usable across any new platform TenneT might choose in the future. In the second step, the Conversion Engine automatically translates the OTL data into TenneT’s new asset management system. The tool takes into account the specific terms and structure used by that system.”
Fewer errors, more insight
The solution includes smart features for validation and error logging. Isabella explains:
“This allows TenneT to immediately see why certain data isn’t converting properly—whether it’s a typo or an incorrect value from a contractor. That ensures reliable data and a smooth process.” At the moment, the team is expanding the Conversion Engine further with some extra developments. And there are many more plans in the pipeline.
